Mercenaries?

So recently there has been some discussion about the role of private contractors in the Iraq war. "Private contractor" is simply a euphemism for "mercenary." These guys are extra-martial, are paid (well) for their work, and have flexibility to operate in different ways than the standard military. And these things got me thinking about another war, one which I've compared to Iraq before - The American Revolution.

In fact, one of the grievances listed against George III in the Declaration of Independence was that:

"
He is, at this Time, transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to complete the Works of Death, Desolation, and Tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty and Perfidy, scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous Ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized Nation."

So what our founding fathers found despicable and cruel at the time of this country's founding is now ok for us to use against others?

CFD in Denver

I was, unfortunately, unable to make the show due to "logistical issues." Luckily for us all, video cameras were present and youtube serves a useful purpose for once. Looks like I missed an amazing show.
